When your child plays a board in our learning engine, the engine sends us a short record of how the lesson went. We want you to know exactly what that means, so here it is in plain terms.
We record which question was put in front of them and what skill it was practising — the subject, the topic, the grade level, how hard the question was, which world the board was skinned in, and the language the board was played in.
We record which answer they chose and how long it took — which of the options they tapped, whether it was right, how many attempts they made, how many wrong taps came before the right one, and the time on the clock. If a wrong answer is one of the common misunderstandings the lesson is built to catch, we note which one it was, because that is the part that tells us the lesson needs work.
We record whether the coaching script was opened and whether the audio was played — and which language it was opened in, so we know whether the spoken version is actually being used.
We record the timing of the drill — each beat of it and how quickly they tapped, which is how we tell fluency apart from guessing.
We record how the session ended — how many rounds were finished, the score, coins earned, whether the drill was completed, whether the game was played, and, if they stopped partway, which step they stopped on.
We also record whether a written explanation was opened and how long it stayed on screen.
No name. No email address. Nothing your child types. These session records carry none of it. The answer choices we record are the wording we wrote into the board ourselves, not anything typed in a box.
The one piece of learner-supplied text in a session record is the topic — the subject they asked for help with, such as “adding fractions” or “photosynthesis.” That has always been recorded, because it is the whole basis of the lesson: without it there is nothing to build. We also note whether the topic was typed in, picked from our catalogue, or taken from homework.
We use this data for one thing: to make the lessons better. It tells us which questions are confusing, which explanations are not landing, which drills are too fast or too slow, and where students give up. It is not used to build an advertising profile of your child, and it is not sold.
